Riverdale Farm
Riverdale Farm
Location: Cabbagetown (downtown Toronto), Canada
Kev and I went to Riverdale Farm before his class. It was really busy for 10 in the morning. There were individual families of mother and child and also a lot of school groups from kindergarten to high school.
The farm was lot bigger than I thought it would be. The animal pens and buildings were located right next to the entrance. They had all the classic farm animals: cow, horse, chicken, goat, sheep and ducks. Riverdale specializes in pioneer breeds of animals that are hard to find in commercial farms.
Further downhill from the animals was a path with many outlooks to a small pond. We spotted 3 painted turtles sunbathing on logs. The area around the pond was heavily forested. It was hard to believe that we were downtown Toronto!
Before we left, Kev bought 4 oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for $1.50 at the Simpson House. I really enjoyed seeing all the animals. The admission is free and there is a small neighbourhood parking lot beside the park.
